What is a Reiki Energy Balancing + Reading?

Reiki Energy Balancing is a powerful practice that can support profound transformation in your life. I weave together modern neuroscience with a deep understanding of the body’s subtle energy centers to guide you into a state of deep relaxation. From this place of ease, you can open to insights beyond the conscious mind and begin to create new pathways for living. Before our session, we’ll complete an intake and assessment to clarify your needs and intentions. During the session, you’ll relax while I gently work with different areas of the body to support and direct the energy flow. Afterward, I’ll share any messages or impressions that came through and offer personalized recommendations to support you in the days and weeks ahead.

What is reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing practice I use to help nourish and restore the body’s natural flow of energy. When we experience chronic stress, life transitions, or carry unresolved experiences from the past, it can show up in both the emotional and physical body—sometimes as tension, imbalance, or illness. Reiki gently supports the body and mind in returning to their natural state of balance and healing. Many people describe feeling deeply relaxed, lighter, and clearer after a session, often with less physical discomfort and a greater sense of peace. These benefits frequently continue to unfold in the days and weeks that follow.

How do we know it works?

In a 2006 study by Baldwin and Schwartz, Reiki was administered to animals and demonstrated measurable reductions in stress, as reflected in their physiological responses. The study also found that Reiki produced greater stress-reducing effects than sham Reiki. Additionally, research has shown that Reiki is associated with increased perceptions of well-being in humans when compared to sham treatments, suggesting its potential to support both physical and emotional healing.

While scientific research on Reiki is still emerging, these findings align with what many people experience firsthand—a deep sense of relaxation, relief from physical discomfort, and greater emotional balance. As our understanding of the mind-body connection continues to evolve, practices like Reiki are increasingly recognized as valuable tools in supporting holistic health and well-being.

Are there electromagnetic effects coming off the practitioner’s hands?

In another 2006 study, this time by Connor and Schwartz, Reiki Practitioners and Master Healers, were instructed to “run energy” in a healing context, and showed a reliable increase in ELF magnetic fields measured from the hands. Master Healers also show greater effects than Reiki I + Reiki II Practitioners. Biophysical measures of bioelectromagnetic fields in healers can be employed in basic and applied biofield research.

Can we bring these spiritual mechanisms into the laboratory and relate them to energy mechanisms?

In the academic paper “Deliberately Caused Bodily Harm and Extraordinary Healing,” it was shown human beings, under special conditions, can inflict injury to themselves with minimal discomfort and produce rapid healing. These effects appear to occur under relaxed, possibly trance-like conditions. It is possible that such enhanced pain reduction and healing effects are mediated, at least in part, by active spiritual processes.

Why is yoga and meditation important?

Yoga and meditation are powerful tools for healing, especially for those who have experienced trauma. Trauma—whether physical, emotional, or psychological—can leave lasting imprints on both the mind and body. These practices offer a holistic way to reconnect with yourself, regulate the nervous system, and support the body’s natural healing process. While they aren’t a replacement for professional therapy or medical care, yoga and meditation can be a deeply supportive complement on the path to recovery and resilience.

What do I do on my end?

It is encouraged that you create a sacred space for the session. This should be a place that feels quiet, safe, and serene. For a Reiki session it will be ideal to have a space where you can lie down and relax. During this time you can burn incense, play music, meditate, daydream — whatever makes you feel most comfortable. On my end, I will facilitate a distance healing session for you to cleanse, bless, and protect your energetic field. During this time you may fall asleep or into a state of deep relaxation while I receive messages from your energetic body.

What will come up in a reading?

While the structure of each session stays consistent, what unfolds within it is always unique and often a mystery. My role is to attune to the subtle, ethereal realms and listen deeply. One of my gifts is the ability to sense what may have been hidden or gently pushed aside within the body-mind. Together, we invite these parts into the light—to be seen, held, and met with compassion. I’ve found that I’m only ever shown what your soul is ready to reveal and what is most important for you to know in that moment. As we talk, I share the messages I receive with the care and honesty of an old friend, and offer additional supports to help you integrate and continue on your healing journey.

What is your approach?

In addition to my studies in Reiki, yoga, and Buddhism, I’ve also trained with teachers in neuroscience and trauma-informed practices. I hold a deep belief that there is no part of us intentionally working against us. Every aspect of the body-mind is doing its best to protect and support us, often based on past experiences and learned survival strategies. Sometimes, these parts hold onto outdated beliefs about what’s needed to stay safe. The good news is that the body’s natural inclination is always toward healing and wholeness. Through this work, we gently support that process—helping to uncover what may feel fragmented and guiding those parts back into harmony, so they can work with you, not against you.

Anything else?

I also bring over a decade of experience working in education policy across Miami, Washington D.C., and New York City. I’ve been an activist since I first had a driver’s license, and this lifelong commitment to social change deeply informs my approach to healing. It’s important to me to hold a grounded, integrative practice that recognizes how the spiritual, the everyday, and the political are all interconnected. In my view, true healing is holistic—we can’t separate the health of the individual from the larger systems we live within. As we assess and work with the energetic body, we honor healing as a personal, interpersonal, and transpersonal journey.
