The Real Magic of Tarot

I was making tea this morning thinking about whether or not I should go to a float tank or just sit in meditation. My next thought was that I should ask the cards for confirmation.

In my younger years I would seek out the cards to tell me what to do. Sometimes I would even do readings for an entire year in advance, just to “prepare” myself for what lies ahead. I was still unsure of myself and looking outside for answers. I was still recovering from an emotionally unpredictable childhood and felt that I needed to look everywhere for clues. I did not know either of these things at the time.

After more spiritual growth and many years later, I realize now that the cards were never trying to tell me what to do. The purpose of the cards, or any mystical modality for that matter, is to reveal what is already within you.

When I put into words what I receive from the ethereal realm and the person in front of me starts sobbing, it’s because I’ve told them what they already know. The tears are cleansing out years of confusion, disbelief, doubt, or denial.

I am not a person who believes we can really make mistakes or become lost on this journey of life. We may do things that cause harm to ourselves or others, and that is something I would like to try and mitigate, but I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to do this whole thing. I say this because my suggestion is that while there is no right or wrong way to seeking guidance, I feel that we should remember we cannot be told anything we don’t already know.

The real magic in the cards is reminding you of who you are.

Why is this important anyway? What I have also found on my spiritual journey is that every tradition that is worth anything tells us we are that which we seek. We are powerful beyond what we can imagine.

This is why I do what I do. I want to be a reminder to you of who you are. To support you in making the most wholesome decisions for your life. Or most interesting to you.

When I see you in front of me I am witnessing nature itself. The divine itself. How can I support and nurture this creative being? This force of life?

I can remind you, and I can trust you.

It is my belief that when each one of us is aligned, powerful, and present we will see an incredible world that has been unknown to us before. To do this, we must come to know ourselves and to stop giving away our power to people and situations that don’t deserve it or know how to use it well. Besides being incredibly fulfilling and fun, this is the motivation for the work that I do. To help you reclaim your rightful place on this earth, and to embody all the space you deserve to take up.

So this is my gentle nudging to help you do the same in your own healing spaces. When you pull cards for yourself remember that you are asking for sage advice, not a difinitive answer. Or if you take a substance that shows you the transcendent realms, it wasn’t just the medicine. That was a key to a door you already posses. When you go seek advice from disembodied beings, remember they are a trusted friend to help you along the path of life. Not a being who rules over your life.

This is the process of becoming. Of remembering who you really are.
